Reading Week at Aberdeen
January 20-24, 2014
Book clues begin – Are you a detective? Listen to the clue during the morning announcements and see if you can guess the book’s title. Enter your guess into a draw in the library and you could win a prize. 5 clues, 5 books, 5 chances to win!
Principal’s challenge: Start recording how many minutes you read each day. Most minutes read by a Primary student (this can be read to or independent reading) and Intermediate student will have lunch with Mrs. Zryd in February. An adult must sign off the time. Return your reading sheet with the total to your teacher on Monday!
DEAR (drop everything and read): Every single person in the school must drop what you’re doing and READ when you hear the announcement (DEAR). This includes parents and staff so be sure to bring a book with you if you are going to be at the school this week! We will announce when you may stop reading.
Unplug and Play Challenge begins in some classes. Students get an individual tracking sheet. You take them home to complete with your family. These are due back on Friday, January 31st. There will be one winner drawn from each class.
Book Swap –On Monday or Tuesday if you have a book you have gently used bring it in to our library and receive a book coupon to use later in the week at the book swap on Wednesday or Thursday.
Book a Day Giveaway – Ms. Carter will give a book away every day this week. Listen to the morning announcements each day to find out who wins a free book and why!
What’s my word Day: In the morning teachers will give their students paper on which they will write a word. (They can choose it the evening before if they wish). Then you try to see how many people you can teach your word to. This isn’t a contest-just a fun way to increase our vocabulary.
Book Swap –Students can drop off books in the library.
READ ME Day – Everybody wears clothing with words on them (nothing offensive/drug/alcohol related). If you don’t have a t-shirt with print on you can create a t-shirt by using masking tape on a dark t-shirt.
Book Swap-Student can cash in their book swap coupons for books selected from the library tables. Happy shopping!
POEM in my POCKET Day – each person should have a copy of a poem in his/her pocket. When asked he/she should be prepared to share it.
Last day for Book clues contest.
