Reading Week at Aberdeen

January 25-29

  • Principal’s challenge: Start recording how many minutes you read each day. Most minutes read by a Primary student (this can be read to or independent reading) and Intermediate student will have lunch with Mrs. Zryd in February. An adult must sign off the time. Return your reading sheet with the total to your teacher on Monday!

  • DEAR (drop everything and read): Every single person in the school must drop what you’re doing and READ when you hear the announcement (DEAR). This includes parents and staff so be sure to bring a book with you if you are going to be at the school this week! This could happen any time this week. Listen for an announcement.

  • Unplug and Play Challenge begins: Students get an individual tracking booklet to take home to complete with their family. Booklets are due back at school on Friday, February 5th. There will be one winner drawn from each class.

  • What’s my word Day: In the morning teachers will give their students paper on which they will write a word. (They can choose it the evening before if they wish). Then you try to see how many people you can teach your word to. This isn’t a contest-just a fun way to increase our vocabulary.

  • Book Swap – in the library

  • READ ME Day – Everybody wears clothing with words on them (nothing offensive/drug/alcohol related). If you don’t have a t-shirt with print on you can create a t-shirt by using masking tape on a dark t-shirt.

  • Book Swap – in the library

  • POEM in my POCKET Day – each person should have a copy of a poem in his/her pocket. When asked he/she should be prepared to share it.

  • Book Swap – in the library

  • Guest Teachers will read a story of his/her choice to another class in the school at a designated time.

  • Principal’s challenge ends on Monday: Teachers will send the name of the student in her/his class who read the most minutes. The top readers –some Primary and some Intermediate students will have lunch with Mrs. Zryd in February.

  • Family Dance – sponsored by our PAC. 5-7pm.
