As you are all aware, we are experiencing a problem right now with the parking situation. Parents are parking their vehicles in the drop-off zone, which has enough room for about 5 cars, and waiting for their children after school. I spoke with by-law officials today for clarification on the matter. Drivers CANNOT park in that zone, whether you are leaving your vehicle or waiting inside the vehicle. Picking up your child should take a matter of 10-15 seconds if your child is waiting for you on the sidewalk. So if you are parked in that zone for more than 30 seconds, you are committing a by-law infraction and can be ticketed. As you can see in the attached photo, in addition to drivers leaving their parked vehicles in the drop off zone, drivers are also parking in front of other people's homes and blocking their driveways. If you do need to wait for your child, please park in the gravel parking lot next to the playground. There is nearly always room in that lot. You could also make arrangements to pick up your child at 2:45 so that you know they will be waiting on the sidewalk for you when you arrive. Or you could walk to the school and walk home with your children. What a pleasant way to enjoy the company of your child and get some exercise at the same time.
